a hunger problem
in Yamhill County?

Absolutely “YES!”

In fact, the Food Bank distributed over 1,000,000 lbs. of food to Yamhill County residents in 2001-2002. This number has doubled in the last 4 years.

Following are statistics from 2001-2002:
Over 10,000 people (13% of county population) received emergency food boxes
4,000 children 17 & under (20% of 17 & under population) received emergency food

Last year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) ranked Oregon sixth in the nation in food insecurity. This is defined as limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate foods.

A USDA survey indicated there are 74,000 households in Oregon that are “food insecure with hunger.”

While newspapers tell us “poverty statistics are down”, the need for food continues to escalate.
